There were 2 Isaiah CLINE's in the 77th OVI. 1. Enlisted Dec. 3, 1861 in Co. G. Died Sept. 8, 1863 in Memphis, TN. 2. Enlisted on Dec. 5, 1861 with Co. I. Promoted to Sergeant on Dec. 31, 1861. Recieved a disability discharge on Feb. 17, 1862. Possibly died after he was discharged?????
(My therory) There is an Isaiah CLINE who was a Private in the US Army buried in Section H. Site 4676 at the Memphis National Cemetery in Tennessee, but the date of death is not listed and the date of interment is unknown. There is an Isiah B. Cline buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, with a Loise B. Cline. Gives dates for Isiah B. Cline as 1853-1887. [Wes Chochran]. This is NOT him.

John EDWARDS enlisted as a Private at the age of 19 with Co. C 77th OVI on Oct. 5, 1861. Nothing about his date or place of death is mentioned. If he enlisted Aug. 27, 1861; died Sept. 28, 1964.....that would be MORE than one year. It is possible that John could have been discharged sometime in the latter part of 1862??

I did not find a John STUMP in either the American Civil War or the Civil War Soldiers & Sailors databases that was with the 7th Virginia. However, I did find a John STUMP listed in the 7th OHIO Cavalry, Co. H in both databases. The American Civil War database gives this information: John STUMP enlisted as a Private on Sept. 2, 1862 and then enlisted with Co. H, Cavalry Regiment on Oct. 27, 1862. He died on May 16, 1863 in Nicholasville, KY.

Addenda - TOOL, Alexander (Independence Twp.) Did not find any Alexander Tool in the 77th OVI, Co. B. after researching various spellings of the surName. In the 1850 census, there is an Alexander H. Towell living in Lawrence Twp., Washington Co. Ohio. He was b. abt. 1841 in Ohio. In the 1860 census, there are two Alexander POOL's living in Independence Twp., Washington County, Ohio. One was 22 yrs. old, b. abt. 1838 in Ohio. The other was 11 yrs. old, b. abt. 1849 in Ohio. This is the same Alexander POOL living in Newport Twp, Washington County, Ohio in 1870, b. abt. 1850 in Ohio Found an Alexander POOL that inlisted on October 23, 1861 as a Private in the 75th, OVI, Co. B. This one died of disease on Dec. 14, 1863 at New York, NY. Not sure this is the same person as Alexander Tool or not.
